Suppression Systems, Inc. (SSI) was founded in 1976 by its current president, Steven Tuck. On little more than a "fistful of dollars," a desire to control his own destiny, and a firm belief he could succeed, SSI was launched. While the early focus of the company was on portable fire extinguishers, restaurant hoods, and industrial fire protection systems, it didn't take long for SSI to find its "future." Halon 1301 was becoming known as "the product of choice" for protecting computer rooms, tape storage areas, and other electronic equipment, and SSI quickly established itself as a quality provider of these systems.
Focusing primarily in the greater Seattle marketplace, the company recognized consistent sales growth throughout the 1980's. Yet, like most of its peers in the industry, SSI was forced to adapt to the phase-out of Halon 1301 in the early 1990's. By focusing on its strong customer base and managing the change, SSI adapted to the down turn in its core business. Expanding into areas like fire alarm, specialty detection and controls, and other types of industrial systems, SSI stayed afloat while other products were developed to replace Halon 1301.
In 1994, a new "clean agent" replacement for Halon 1301 became available, and SSI responded quickly. FM-200™ found immediate acceptance in the commercial marketplace, and this agent spurred solid growth for SSI throughout the 1990's, and into the new millennium. As technology multiplied, and the need for reliable, fast acting systems intensified, SSI became the partner of choice for a whole host of technologically driven companies. During this same time period SSI added personnel to support its growth and established itself as a regional and national provider of advanced fire protection systems. It maintains this same position today, and is firmly committed to providing its customers the best equipment, systems, and service in the industry.
